Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School achieved a 2011 Academic Performance Index (API) score of 842, ranking it the 7th top-performing public high school in LAUSD. Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School was recognized as a 2011 National Blue Ribbon School, it is the only school in LAUSD to receive this honor. Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School was also recognized as a 2010 Silver Medal EPIC Gains school for student achievement and a 2009 California Distinguished School, an award that recognizes the state’s most exemplar, inspiring, and well-rounded community public schools.

Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School is located in a permanent facility in the University Park area of Los Angeles. The surrounding neighborhood includes Crenshaw, Jefferson, and Manual Arts high schools. The school shares a campus with and enrolls students from Alliance Richard Merkin Middle School.
Demographics and Average Daily Attendance

Principal Profile
James Waller has worked in inner-city education for the past 12 years. After finishing his teaching credential at USC in 1997, Mr. Waller began working at Foshay Learning Center where he was a bilingual history and ESL teacher for eight years. He served as the school’s literacy coach during his last two years at Foshay. Before taking over as Principal at Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School Mr. Waller served as Assistant Principal at Alliance William and Carol Ouchi High School. Mr. Waller received his Master’s in education administration in 2005.
