Alliance Health Services Academy High School

Alliance Health Services Academy High School is a free public charter school authorized by the Los Angeles Unified School District.
 
Alliance Health Services Academy High School concentrates on college-readiness through a themed curriculum that includes experiential learning with a focus on the health care industry. The school’s mission is to equip students in South Los Angeles with the tools necessary to excel in high school, succeed in college, and to motivate students to select health care related majors and careers—areas in which minority students such as those in the Health Services High School community are underrepresented.

Alliance Health Services Academy High School is located in South Los Angeles, surrounded by Locke, Washington, and Gardena high schools. Alliance Health Services Academy is temporarily located on the campus of Henry Clay Middle School until it moves into a permanent facility in the area.

57% Hispanic and 43% African American, 17% English Language Learner (ELL) students, and 91% free or reduced meal program participants. Average daily attendance is 96%.
 

Principal Profile

Erik Elward has been an urban educator for more than 14 years. He began his career in education teaching English at Gardena High School. During his seven-year tenure at urban charter high schools, he has served as a department chair, curriculum coach, new teacher mentor, and assistant principal. A graduate of UC Berkeley, Mr. Elward received a Master's degree through the Principal Leadership Institute at UCLA, and an Ed.D. from the University of Southern California.
